Greetings!

And salutations!

Well, it has been a wild sort of a week for me. On the one hand I am still under the spell of a new medication that makes me fall asleep, on the other hand, RAPTURE came out last Tuesday!! YAY! The response from readers has been really awesome and I thank you all for that. It's really exciting for me since I feel this is my best work to date. It is a personal favorite of mine.

I am so excited about the release that I am going to give away an ARC of PLEASURE both here and on my home site to anyone who comments on RAPTURE and what they thought of it. You can get picked if you even have less than enthusiastic things to say about it. I prefer the truth to ass kissing, thank you very much. I think it makes me a better writer in the long run.

There's been some confusion as to the release date for PLEASURE. The official date is August 25th, 2009. It is NOT in 2010. That was a misprint in the RAPTURE excerpt. I also wanted to let you know that I am still working on the sixth Nightwalker book so it will be some time before it goes into production and you all get to see it. Starting in January you will see me taking leave of the Nightwalkers altogether in order to introduce the Gatherers, an interdimensional romance series that I think you will like a great deal. After that you will see me doing a sci fi romance series with Ballentine Books. Wild huh? A LOT of exciting stuff, new and interesting to be sure. But you will eventually get to see your favorite Nightwalkers again, never fear.

On a personal note, Bianca is here for the summer! It's a little crazy with a nine year old in the house, and such a change from the boring quiet I am used to. I can't get much of anything done, but I don't mind! It's great to have hugs and stories and such. :) We're headed to the beach in August and I think we'll all enjoy that.

So, anyway, tell me what you thought of RAPTURE if you want some PLEASURE! I'll be happy to mail you out your prize! And don't forget, we are going to have some wild fun at my get together in October and I really hope to see you there. Don't forget to get yourselves registered now because the price goes up after the initial cut off date because of the hotel rules. C'mon, it's worth it just for the DJ and the masquerade!

I finished Rapture last night and I am really looking forward to Pleasure! I thought Rapture was excellent! Dae kicks ass, she is the perfect match for Magnus. I don't want to say anymore, so has not to spoil it for those that have not read it. And if you haven't read it yet, READ IT! lol IMO this is one of Jacki's best!

Hi Jackie:

I hope you're feeling better soon!

Another Nightwalker book? I thought Noah was the last one. Who will the next book be about?

Can't wait to start Rapture. I'm really anxious now that everyone is posting how much they loved it!

Let us know who the next Nightwalker book is about.

I loved Rapture! I really enjoy your writing a great deal. I've been a fan of the Nightwalker series but I have to say that the ShadowDwellers series is awesome. You have every reason to be proud of this book. I did not want to put it down. Is the third book the final in this series or are you taking it even further? Dae kicked ass and I loved how she was still so strong even though she came from such a tragic background. Dae and Magnus are a perfect match! Bravo!

HEHE... I hope the next Nightwalker is about Jasmine... she needs some lovin.... or at least another Vampire. Damien was by far my favorite... close second by Elijah.

Unfortunitly I have not Even red Rapture yet. I keep going in to get it but they dont have it,so I get distracted by other books.

I will more than likely Buy them both online here shortly.

I am so sad that I haven't read Rapture yet. Everyone is talking about how good it is and I have to wait a coupl more weeks before I can go to somplace that has it. Maybe it will show up in the Walmart here soon so I can read this awesome book. I can't wait to read Rapture and then Pleasure.

I liked Magnus so much from Ecstasy that I made sure to buy Rapture the day it was released. I appreciated how this book made Magnus even more likeable, without being so perfect.

One of my pet peeves is a book with a great hero and a blah heroine. Not here - Dae was tough without being irritating and developed in interesting ways. In fact, I enjoyed the Shadowdwellers so much that I went back and re-read the Nightwalkers series in order.

Hate to sound like an ass-kisser, but thanks for the great stories!

If you read my review on Amazon.com this is pretty much the same thing:

Rapture is an amazing read…But it is not for the faint of heart…the book was an emotional rollercoaster plumbing the depths of human strengths, weaknesses, and depravity.

The character development in this novel is the strongest in any of the books from either the Nightwalker or Shadowdweller series so far.

Dae is a funny, witty character with complexities and baggage that make her so real. She’ll make you laugh, she’ll make you cry, and she’ll amaze you with her inner beauty despite all the horrors and wickedness that she lived through. Magnus is a great match for Dae. He is strong, intelligent, and reliable, and he eventually recognizes the true strengths and inner beauty of his match. Although his occasional traipsing into male chauvinism can be frustrating at times and has you rolling your eyes…these negative qualities are so typical of even the best of men in real life, and makes him a little more believable and genuine.

I think that’s the core strength of this book…it feels the most “real” of all of the Nightwalker and Shadowdweller books. There are some scenes in this book that are very disturbing and upsetting…but Jacki delves into the dark evils that exist in every society and every religion…Where innocence is preyed upon by the power hungry and corrupt. You go on a trip through the hell and helplessness that victims suffer, and she makes thirst for justice burn in you as it does in her characters.

Although tried and tested, her heroes emerge stronger and better. We get glimpses of the not so sterling qualities they possess as well as their strengths and triumphs. Just like all of us, these characters are presented with all their best qualities as well as their worst. And they are even more lovable because of their lack of perfection and because of their victories over their less attractive traits.

The “Happy ever after” in this book is as it is in life...not neat and tidy. So, although they neutralize the current threat, and although you know that they’ll make it through things together, it's obvious that it won’t be an easy journey nor will it be the perfect fairy tale.

And that leaves you wanting more…and waiting impatiently for the next book.

Jacki...your descriptive writing paints amazing pictures and scenes…and your love scenes were truly beautiful and sensual. You know I generally skim through these parts in books, but I promised you I'd read the whole book, so in each of them, I've made a concious effort not to skim. Not needed in this book. I hung on every single sensual word of your sex scenes. Damn! They were so hot...and so well written, I had to absorb every word and nuance. The Hubby definitely benefited from a couple of those readings!!!

Jacki takes you on a journey of beauty and juxtaposes it with evil and depravity…making you all the more appreciative of the goodness in life. And again, taking a paranormal story and grounding it in reality.

I love the new maturity and depth to your writing.

Rapture goes beyond being a great romance, or a great paranormal story, and it delves into people’s character and their development through the trials and horrors they face in life.

I also saw so much of you in Dae's spirit...even more so than in Bella.

I am excited to see how this series continues on, and to see the Jacki's amazing talent continue to grow.

RENEE said...

By the way in case I didn't say it clearly enough...I loved Rapture.

It has now catapulted all books out of my top anything and is tied with Wuthering Heights for favorite book of all time.

Thank you for an incredible read, Jacki.

Dae is such a strong, compelling character. Her observations of those around her are something else! A larger than life character like Magnus needs a woman with the heart of a lioness to keep him in line! Great detailed story keeps you in thrall until the end.

I absolutely enjoyed reading Rapture. I have enjoyed all of your other books as well. But what I loved the most was seeing how two strong and very independant characters realize that they need each other in order to make their lives worth while. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. And am really looking forward to another Nightwalker book.

I am so glad I got a Kindle. I didn't have to wait in line to get the book, I didn't have to worry that it would be sold out. I got instant delivery the day it was published. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. I really enjoyed the dynamics between Dae and Magnus. She was perfectly suited for him. Instead of standing behind him, she'd fight beside him. It was just what he needed.

I too am wanting to see Jasmine's story. I think she deserves a happily ever after. I can't wait for the sixth Nightwalker book.

I'm really glad that Pleasure will be released next month instead of 2010. When I saw that in the preview I was disappointed.

I can never put your books down. I'm even going to read your new series. I usually stick to the more magic based books about witches, vampires, demons, and shape shifters. I enjoy your writing so much I'm going to make a jump and read your interdimensional romance series. I know I won't be disappointed. Keep up the good work.

I just finished it today and I was not disappointed. I checked out your site to see if there's info on the up coming "Pleasure." I just think with all the chaos in thier world it's no wonder they don't mingle much with the other nightwalkers. I loved the side-story of Malaya and Guido. Hope to read them sooooon...
Hope you're well and thanks for another wonderful story.=)

Okay so I've done it! Gasp, I've booked to come over from Australia to meet you in October! I read Jacob when it was first released and I knew immediately that I had found a new author with a strong voice who would intrigue and entrance, and for readers this is always such a joy. So thank you! I've read your books many times - but have to admit I haven't read Rapture yet because of delayed Australian release dates and I'm trying to support the local economy ... so dammit, I have to wait! Still have to budget now anyway. Weehee, see you in October *grin*

I finish Rapture in one day. Dae is strong and kick ass heroine. Dae admits that is a bitch. Dae helps Magnus become more human and He helps her over come her past. I can not wait for more Shadowdeller and Nightwalker books as well as any other book Jacki wants to write.

Kainani said...

Rapture was okay for me but I liked Ecstasy better. I love Trace. I don't know but maybe Dae was too strong of a character for me, I didn't enjoy Dae as much as Ashla. I still liked the book though. Loved all the action and very exotic sex scenes. I can't wait for Pleasure. Sagan was looking pretty sexy in Rapture. I love the cliff hanger with him being kidnapped. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Jaci, I'm excited to hear of all the new stuff brewing. Wow a sci-fi book sounds great. You are one of my favorite authors and can't wait for the new stuff.

MrsRony said...

This is the best book ....maybe 2nd to Jacob but this was great from page one. Great wording, pacing, & tension. Dae is the best kick-ass heroine and I loved every hard edge, foul mouthed, fighting, vulnerable inch of her. A real woman heroine willing to fight for and with her man despite her flaws is such a rarity these days. Magnus was so conflicted with his desires and his responsibilities and sense of right and wrong it was beautiful to watch him crumble and rebuild himself. I could envision every scene. I am ASSUMING you will answer some of the unanswered questions. This book is full of heat, heat, heat and perfect ending line EVER. I loved every bit of this book! The perfect ride!

By far ... and I've read A LOT of novels ... this is the best I've read as far as romance. The characters so defined and ... I'm at a loss. You have thoroughly impressed me with Rapture. I've read every book from Jacob to Rapture ... Jacob grabbed my attention and I blew through your series and waited patiently for Ectasy with Trace ... and wow ... I was like a kid at christmas for Rapture ... Magnus just grabbed my heart ... Great job Jaci.

oflindentrees said...

Jackie I must say that the scene where Magnus and Dae first make love is one of the most beautiful, sweet scenes I've ever read. She is the luckiest girl in the world to have such a strong, caring, wonderful man as Magnus. Their connection is amazing and you can truly see the pride he has for her with each turn of the page.

The scene in the bath after the "incident" is also amazing!! I am just all around jealous of this girl! I want a Magnus for myself!

I finished Rapture this morning and I must say it was everything and more. You have such a great way of capturing the passion, excitement and emotions of the human psyche while still maintaining an intriguing and complex story line. I can hardly wait for August and what other wonderful worlds and lives you will throw our way!

I think you are right, this is your strongest book to date. Each has their own charms and strengths, but the Shadowdwellers series, especially Rapture, has a kind of immediacy through show not tell writing that lets the reader really inhabit the characters and feel along with them. There is also very strong, for lack of a better word, world-building, a tangible sense of place and what's at stake. Like you really get a feel for what's going on in the Sanctuary, what things look like and what everthing means for someone as invested in it as Magnus is.

He was HOT. And I loved it that Dae was a real smart, tough, asskicker. Wise and strong. A lot of female protagonists are described as strong but to me they are either shrill or, well, just not really impressive. They don't really challenge those around them and the relationship between them ends up being all about the man. Dae was impressive. And, she made someone as powerful and wise and dedicated to what he believes as Magnus have to reassess things. She took her education in to her own hands and sought to own her new position, to explore herself. And the sex was real and unique to the situation and characters, and it was real hot. There were disturbing moments and situations, but i think they were honest and called for given this is suppose to be a society coming out of a sort of dark ages.

I thought the way in which different characters are positioned with respect to gender and how the story puts pressure on certain conceptions of gender norms in this society is interesting. What is true equality look like between the men and women as they conceived of among the Shadowdwellers? Between different couples, different men and women with personalities and differences that don't just vary according to gender but individual character and experiences? How does rank and position fit in? These questions that the story poses gives depth to Rapture that I don't see in many paranormal romance novels. And it looks like they are going to be further explored in Pleasure. I can't wait!

I absolutely loved Rapture just as much, possibly more, than Ecstasy! I simply cannot wait until Pleasure comes out in August!!!!

I purchased Rapture last Friday and finished it today. The only reason it took so long was because life keeps getting in the way of my reading!!! LOL Anyway, I am SO looking forward to Pleasure because I can not wait to read about Guin and Malaya. Rapture was excellent! No doubt about it. I wholeheartedly agree with what both Renee and Mana commented in this blog. Your writing has always been masterful and in Rapture it elevated. You have introduced a world of the Shadowdwellers in Ecstasy. Like a painter you charcoaled the image. Now in Rapture you have drawn such a deep and spiritual world that as a reader I can visualize the colors. The details flowed so fluidly that I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that it flowed to write it as well.
I was engrossed in the Nighwalkers' world and devoured each book. Each character was different, separate and stood alone strongly yet the story was more powerful and more beautiful when they came together.
Now in Rapture you created another beautiful world. Ironically, they are of the same world yet so completely different. Just like our reality. There are many nations that are totally different.
I am facinated with your use of a female nemesis in both worlds. And the main character Dae is a very strong and powerful character. Everyone in the blog comments on how Dae is a great match for Magnus. I believe that it is the oposite. She seems to be the stronger of the two characters and that is saying a lot since Magnus is very powerful too. Your underlying theory is evident: Female power is by far superior.
I love your stories because you don't write like many authors do. You put them in realistic situations. You don't throw in a situation that would creat a misunderstanding between characters and each of them go around and around for many pages thinking that the other does not have the same feelings as they do. The "I'm going to leave because she/he doesn't love me like I love him/her" situation. In other words some authors do this as a filler or situation creator. Your characters are genuine! The situations don't feel contrived!
I love how Magnus,a strong male character can show softness in feelings without it being a weakness.I love how Dae shows down to earth mentality and street smarts yet is as spiritual as Magnus. She truely is the Yin to his Yang.
I could write about Rapture all day but I don't have all day. I need to let other people express their feelings too. If you haven't read it, go out NOW!!!
Jacki, you are the best! I can not wait for Pleasure. Maybe I will be the lucky winner and read it sooner than later!!!
Jacki, just keep writing!!! I'll be reading! Thank you so much!

I bought Rapture last night around 5:00 pm; beautiful weather, Margarita in hand on my "Friday, I started reading Rapture at 6:30. My daughter turned on the porch light for me at 9pm and I finally slunk into the house at 11pm having read the entire book in one sitting! The rest of the margaritas had even melted, since I didn't move once I started reading!

Rapture was - okay, here's the pun - RAPTUROUS! Loved Magnus and Dae together; the fire was always jumping and HOT. I though that Trace excited me from Ecstasy, but Magnus...whew! Cannot wait to read Pleasure...thank goodness it's coming out soon. FANTASTIC writing!! Thank you!

each book gets better and better. I obsessed over the nightwalkers and was amazed that you topped them with Trace and Ashla. I never imagined Magnus and Dae would make for an even hotter book. I can't wait for Malaya and Guin, or the next nightwalker book (whose book will this be?) It is great to escape, even for a few hours, with a sexy demon, vampire or now the shadowdwellers.

When I finished Rapture and saw that Pleasure was coming out in Jan 2010, I counted on my fingers and realized it was going to be MONTHS before it came out! On a lark, I came here and, so happy so happy so happy, I read that Pleasure comes out NEXT MONTH! Holy Cow! You Rock, Missy-Girl! How you have any anxiety on the reception of ANY of your books is a mystery. Altho, I hear that is the sign of a true artist; doubting themselves. My first reaction to your finishing Nightwalkers, and leaving Shaddowdwellers to go on to other genres is pure panic. My second reaction is trust; you know what you're doing ergo the fabulous reads I have had as a result. Thank you. And blessed be with being able to share a summer with your little one.

I loved Rapture, finished it in 4 hours. I thought that Dae was pretty damn kicka$$. I definitely enjoyed this venture into the ShadowDwellers world more than Ecstasy, mainly because I loved Dae so much.

I can't wait for Pleasure, but i'm a bit confused since the excerpt on Amazon is a little weird. Is pleasure Sagan's book or Malaya/Guin?

Unknown said...

I just finished reading Rapture and I have to saw your writing really is getting better and better! I loved all of the Nightwalker books, each new one more than the previous (though I still love them all incredibly!). So I was excited about the Shadowdweller series and what new avenues that opened up. I have to say both with Trace's book, and now with Magnus' book, I am stunned!

There has always been a great depth to your writing. The characters feel fully fleshed out, complex and real, but this is just proven completely in Rapture. Magnus is a man with so many layers, and his own ways of taking care of Sanctuary, and managing his own personal life, are portrayed very well.

Dae was an incredible heroine. Her childhood suffering did not make her weak, just the opposite. She was brave, bold, and strong yet also hesitant, learning new things throughout the book, learning to trust.

I really felt the amount of understanding those two reached, and how much work it took the both of them to get there. How different they were and yet how well their personalities matched. The two are so incredibly passionate and dedicated. I loved how they each have their own issues, but none is overplayed, or overshadows the others. They are looked on as whole people with all of their fears and strengths, not as separate pieces of a whole.

Beautifully written, and I can't wait to see Pleasure, which I'm sure will be fantastic.
Thank you for such wonderful and inspiring writing.

I loved Dae! I read the Rapture in one day and I can honestly say that Dae surprised me. I would have never pictured her personality being with Magnus. But they balance eachother really well and she doesn't let him get too cerebral. And who doesn't love a woman with real apprication of fine weapons? Thanks for the ride.

I just finished Rapture and i love love love it! Dae is officially my favorite heroine for the Nightwalker series so far! I love that she isn't a submissive handmadien but fights tooth and nail for what she believes in. I'm so glad Magnus met his match and has found a new depth in his life. I can't wait for Pleasure! I want to read it now! I've been looking forward to Malaya's story. I know you can only write so fast but the Nightwalkers are like a drug that i wait to greedily devour. I hope that you have many more heroes and heroines to explore in this world because i have loved every one you have written so far. I have read them numerous times and impatiently wait for the next one.

I haven't yet been able to read the Nightwalkers, but will as soon as I can. And I must say, with how enrapturing Trace/Ashla and Magnus/Dae were, Malaya and Guin are my favorites... at least so far!

I bought Ecstasy when it first came out, it took me quite a while to read it. I actually read a book in between and when I did finish it, I knew I wasn’t interested in reading Rapture. My daughter bought the book and encouraged me to read it, saying it was much better than the first. I’ve had the book for a while now and decided to try it last night. I honestly couldn’t put it down. I was enthralled with the story from chapter one. Magnus & Dae? Perfect hero & heroine. I love the twists & turns in the story!

Jacquelyn – I’m sorry I doubted your writing, I am definitely a fan again! Looking for to the next book in the series!

I also really loved Dae and Magnus together - which probably contributed to my love of this book - GOOD JOB!!!

Hi Jacquelyn, I just wanted to post my comment as to how much i loved Rapture! I liked Ectasy alright. But as soon as I read the excerpt for Rapture i knew i wanted to read Magnus' story. My favorite Nightwalkers book was Damien, because in the end i felt him & Syreena were a true melding of two such complete opposites. I love the interspecies romances best-- i realized that after the Shadowdwellers only fell in love with each other! Though Daenaira is probably my favorite heroine because she's such a great balance of toughness and vulnerability. I hope i get to find out if Syreena succeeded in having a baby in Jasmine's story. I find the conflict between her & Syreena very dynamic. I'm so curious as to how she and Damien are coming along with arranging their court. I am so excited about all your upcoming projects-- Yay!
An ardent fan, Kerry

Sounds like you had a "semi" nice vacation. I had a fight with a Man of War once. I lost. Hope your "wound" is not a terribly bad one.
I saw your comment about 'ass kissing' and had to smile. I honestly do not think anyone could find fault with your work unless they are just not a reader of the genre. No ass kissing intended. I've been engrossed in the Nightwalker series. I stopped at Elijah I think. My son was killed in a freak accident last June. He was five. I shut down mentally and physically. We found out I was pregnant only weeks after his death...I now have a seven month old daughter. My thrid little girl. People bought me books, tried to get me to DO SOMETHING that I enjoyed. Nothing. I was about a month ago that I actually started reading all the books that were given to me. I felt in some weird way that if my son was gone I had no right to enjoy anything. I found the copy of Elijah that I had been reading the day my baby died and I finished it. Honestly, I loved it, but could not bring myself to buy the remainder of the series. It reminded me of too much. I found your Shadowdwellers by chance as a friend had given me Ecstasy. I was hooked once again. Boy did I miss a LOT. And a Kindle? I had NOT a clue!!! Mine is coming first thing tomorrow!! I have it on my ipod and spent a savage amt. of money on books. My husband says it's too dangerous for me to have a bookstore at my fingertips.
Anyway. Thank you. Thank you for writing such wonderful stories for us to read and for bringing me out of my own personal hell for the moments that I'm caught up in your magical adventures.

Ps. I now have Damien and Noah to read and I promise I will get to them. I've just enjoyed your Shadowdwellers so MUCH!

I must make a correction. It was Gideon I was reading. I just realized that Eiljah WAS a book I read and I never finished Gideon. I had only JUST gotten it and my son passed on the 8th of June. My 17th wedding anniversary.
Sorry for the mix-up
Now I have to go back and make sure I've even read Elijah. I could have sworn I did. I will flip through Gideon and see if I ever finished but I don't think I did. Shame on me. I may dig up the courage to try.
HUGS

YES!! I did finish the copy of Gideon. I have it put away with my son's things. I also finished Elijah but it was not long ago. Noah and Gideon are waiting for Kindle download.
That would have driven me NUTS not to figure out how I mixed it up. If I'm not mistaken I got my copy of Gideon on a Thursday night trip to books a million. It was just released. My son died that following Sunday

OMG I'm so sorry but i've gotten this ALL screwed up!I read Elijah before june 8..I had bought Gideon as well and was working on that one. I had JUST gotten Damien but was still readin Gideon on that awful day. WOW. I had to pull off my shelf my hard copies to see which was which. I've still not read Damien or Noah. I did finish Gideon.
Now I've got it right. I hope. Anyway, Last post. Promise. when I write something, If I have that niggling thought I might have been wrong I HAVE to fix it. I have a bit of OCD. Sorry for triple posting.

I mean to write as soon as I put the book down which was at 3am. But, you left it with a typical throwndown that has become Dae's style. I was disappointed the baby hasn't arrived yet. I saw where you were going with Mayala. Wouldn't surprise me to have Jasmine end up with Tristan.
Absolutely stunning book from start to finsh. You start with a bang and end with bang.
As always you leave me with "she can't just leave me like that". Then I have to wait months for the next one.
You're amazing and I hope my book is recieved as well as Jacob.
Take care and your books get better and better.
